Fractured Hull

I sit here writing to you on my last day. I, Damon, a Sapper aboard the Star Atlas, will end my life against my will to keep the truth hidden. I found what lay deep within the hull of our home. The navigators lie to you, they say we are safe in the voids of space, not on a planet. I know…. I know we are not meant for the stars. We reached for them, and they pulled us into the nothingness. I was sent down to the 47th floor for some routine maintenance. I am damn sure I was sent to die.

The eyes… the eyes; that’s all I remember, and the screams of wanderers who sort adventure only to find a nightmare disguised as a guiding light we follow. It asked me to join it, become one with the stars. My fear paralysed me, I could not believe it. My mind even now tries to put the puzzle pieces of that monster posing as a god together. How could something like that be a creator?

Join me……join me…..JOIN ME!……..

I’m tired. I’m tired of my metal prison. Maybe joining it would free me? My head throbs with a pain unlike any other, continuously smashing it into the wall. My eyes, covered in red, and the voice bellows. “Welcome.”
